Audio Productions

As you would expect, costs for projects vary. Small audio projects with just 90 - 120 interview minutes and light editing may be in the $600 - $900 range.

Medium length audio projects or extensive editing and story organization may be in the $1,500 range, and large projects, with many interview hours and multiple family members can total $2,500 or more.

Video productions

Video production cost will be higher, with many variables influencing the estimate for a project. Filming and editing family documentaries can take weeks of work, and it requires a collaborative effort.

I film most interviews with two 4k video cameras, plus separate audio, careful lighting and set design. I’ve invested in the best equipment for these kind of projects because the care taken on the technical end of the project shows through in the quality of a production that will be watched across generations.

My wife's aunt tells how "Dad bought a pony for us that we had so much fun with. She was such a tame horse that three or four of us could sit on her at one time.”

Her name was Ponco.

Consider a family gift

Joining with your brothers and sisters or other family members to split production costs is a sensible choice, and it makes a perfect family gift to a parent or grandparent.

Received from all their children, they'll realize that their stories are important.

Additional costs may include travel expense, home movie digitization, scanning, project management, additional media, and taxes.

After discussing your goals, I will provide a detailed estimate, including projections for additional costs if you want to expand the project with more recording time.
